Curriculum Vitae
Alberto Cruz (1982), Oaxaca, Mexico. He graduated from the Institute of Plastic Arts at the School of Fine Arts of Oaxaca in 2005 and later from the Bachelor of Plastic Arts at the Benito Juárez Autonomous University of Oaxaca in 2013. His work has been exhibited in different states of the republic and abroad in countries such as the USA, London, and Japan on various occasions throughout these years. He was awarded the Takeda Prize for the Shinzaburo Takeda Biennale in 2016.
His work is also distinguished by being the co-founder of production and dissemination projects around traditional graphic processes, such as the Oaxaca Graphic Workshop (2016), Burro Press Workshop (2016), the Latin American Miniprint Oaxaca Contest (2017, 2018, 2019) and the Oaxaca Miniprint Workshop (2020).
Alberto Cruz's work is narrative, representing scenes that, in their uniqueness, form a window of access to a world of fantastic projections of individual stories. His compositions include a lens to look at a totemic relationship in the imaginary of the work. The conjugations between children and animals or plants show innocence in the actions of his characters. With it, he leads us to a mysterious daily life in which fantasy and reality are raised on the same plane as forms of human interaction.
Drawing is his primary means of production; with it, he has made engraving techniques the ultimate form of his works. His compositions show us an evident mastery of the "stain" as a technical tool. It is about well-defined forms with the minimum of elements necessary to subtly focus attention on what is happening on the scene.
